USB/KNX interface

Code: EK-BD1-TP

USB/KNX interface

Description

The Ekinex® USB interface EK-BD1-TP allows a bidirectional data connection between a PC or laptop and a KNX bus system. The device handles addressing, parameter configuration, visualization, protocol management, and comprehensive diagnosis of KNX bus devices via ETS.

The interface uses the common EMI (External Message Interface) protocol and belongs to the standard USB HID device class, making it completely driverless and plug-and-play across modern operating systems.

The front-panel USB Type-B connector is galvanically isolated from the KNX bus line, shielding the host computer against electrical surges and line interference.

Two front-panel LED indicators display continuous optical feedback on the USB connection with the host computer and real-time data traffic on the KNX bus line.

Connections and Delivery

  • Connection to the KNX bus line with standard terminal block (black/red, included)
  • USB Type-B female connector on front panel for PC/laptop communication
  • Mounting on standard 35 mm profile rail according to EN 60715 (2 modular units = 36 mm)
  • Standard delivery includes one bus terminal block

Functions and Features

Bidirectional data connection between PC and KNX bus system
Complete addressing, parameterization, and diagnostics of KNX devices via ETS
Galvanic isolation between host computer and KNX installation
Driverless Plug & Play installation via standard USB HID device class
Two frontal status LEDs for visual inspection of USB and KNX bus activity
Reliable EMI protocol support for current and future building automation setups
Compact 2-unit modular casing for standard 35 mm DIN-rail mounting

Configuration and Commissioning

The device does not require any parameter configuration with the ETS program. Thanks to the native USB HID device class, it is automatically recognized by the operating system without dedicated drivers. Commissioning simply requires connecting the KNX bus line and the USB cable.
